Englewood Grad Makes Forbes 30 Under 30
As an undergrad at Yale, Christopher Rim helped conduct a national survey that asked how students feel in schools. The response: tired, stressed, and bored. This inspired him to start Command Education Group, which uses EQ coaching to help students gain admission to elite universities. In the past 18 months, 97% of his students were accepted into their top three colleges. Command uses a one-for-one business model: one free ride for low-income students for every paying student. Rim has been recognized as one of People’s ‘Heroes Among Us’ and serves on Facebook’s inspirED board.
During his time at the Academies at Englewood, a public magnet preparatory school located in northeastern New Jersey with a reputation of producing top-notch graduates through a rigorous, college-level educational curriculum, Rim received the President’s Lifetime Call to Service Volunteer Award from President Barack Obama and served on Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation dedicated to empowering youth. After entering Yale for his undergraduate education, Rim founded Command Education, a premier education and admissions consultancy headquartered in NYC that works to spark curiosity and genuine enthusiasm in students and provide them with the opportunity to develop their passions and successfully navigate the college application process. Command Education was recently named the “nation’s leader in college admissions consulting” by People Magazine in 2019. His commitment to his admissions consulting program and partnership with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence earned him a second presidential award from Barack Obama, the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Forbes included Rim in 30 Under 30 in the Education category.
Rim is frequently featured in education-related TV segments and articles including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, US News & World Report, CNBC’s Power Lunch and Squawk Box, New York Post, and FOX as well as international media such as the Hong Kong Economic Journal and South China Morning Post. He is also a Senior Contributor for Forbes, where he writes about emotionally intelligent leadership and education.
In a recent interview, Rim shared, “My favorite quote has always been “if someone says no, you’re talking to the wrong person.” I would tell any potential twenty-something founder to be tenacious in the path to making their business a reality. There were so many moments in Command Education’s formation that could have been interpreted as signs to stop trying, but if I had done that, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Founding a business is a rollercoaster that requires grit, ambition, and a mindset to approach obstacles as challenges to overcome rather than setbacks.”
